Parasite Control
Woodbridge Parasite Control for Pets
Dogs and cats are very attractive hosts to parasites. Fur gives them a lot of places to hide and if they find the right spot they can stay out of reach from teeth and claws. Parasite control is something every pet owner needs to think about, not just for your furry friend but for yourself too. Parasites that infect pets will spread to the human residents of the household as well. Thankfully, there are many things you can do to prevent this.
At Crossroads Animal Care Center, we recommend using a year-round parasite preventative product. We maintain a full inventory of parasite control products to protect your pet from fleas, ticks, heartworms, and other parasites.
Products we offer include:
- Heartgard Plus (heartworms)
- Nexgard (fleas and ticks)
- Frontline Gold (fleas and ticks)
- Revolution (fleas, heartworms, and ticks)
We also recommend an annual fecal exam to test for internal parasites. Call (703) 497-7387 or contact us online to schedule an appointment.
Do Indoor Pets Need Parasite Control?
Yes! While indoor pets are less exposed to outside contaminants than most animals, there are many parasites that can make their way indoors and infect your friend. Roundworms, tapeworms, ticks, and heartworms are common parasites known to infect indoor pets. No matter how clean you keep your home, some bugs are bound to find their way in. If your pet enjoys hunting and killing moths, beetles, and mosquitos, then their risk for parasites increases.
During winter, many parasites hitch rides on humans so that they can enjoy a comfortable space inside a warm, humid home. Fleas are well-known users of this tactic, and they can infect you and your pet.
Remember that parasites are not only irritating, they can also carry diseases such as cat scratch fever and Lyme disease. Thankfully, parasite medications have a high success rate and should prevent serious infestations.
